A band of chlidren and a young American missionary encounter Chinese soldiers torturing one of their own. In 1924 the Chinese army conscripted local men who often were emboldened by their new power. Alfreda Edwins had to choose – leave the soldiers alone or stand up for her beliefs. This story is one of many in a larger work to be published the fall of 2017. About the Author
Katherine Edwins Schumm was born in Minneapolis, MN but at the age of two the family moved to Asia. Over the next eleven years, she lived in more than five countries. This experience is reflected in her writing and stories since writing her first novella in seventh grade.
A natural storyteller she became a therapist as an adult, which helped her touch the lives of many women and families experiencing conflict and life transitions. In 2002 she was asked to write a retrospective of her grandfather’s mission to China in the early 1900’s which published both in the U.S. and in China.
Currently, she lives in central Florida with her husband and three dogs.
