Chasing Shadows

by Ron Miller

On a rainy night in the 1800s, a patrolman in Liverpool, England, stumbles upon the body of a retired English officer. The corpse lay in a side alley with its throat slashed and two stab wounds in the back.

Two weeks later, another London policeman finds a second retired officer brutally murdered in the same fashion.

But it is when a third officer is found slain in a similar style that the leaders of Whitehall, home of England’s security force, believe it is enough and send out a call for agent Daniel Barton!

When Barton receives the letter, telling him to return home immediately, his dream security job in Jamaica comes to a crashing halt! To make matters worse, after returning to England, his normally keen observations are confounded not only by the officers’ murders but by a gruesome murder of a young woman in the same manner as the others! Thinking he had been following a single trail, Barton realizes things are more complicated and that previously, he had only been chasing shadows.

About the Author

Ron Miller, a twenty-seven-year army veteran, spent most of the 1980s and 90s in Germany. While wandering throughout the countryside, observing the beautiful castles and listening to haunting tales from local storytellers, an idea for a book started forming in his mind.

It wasn’t until learning of his family’s involvement in the 1488 Battle of Saint-Aubins-du-Cormier, in central France, that he realized this was the core event needed to launch what became a series of books. Drawing upon his own experiences and those of people around him, words started flowing until he had created not only one book, but three: The Cimbri series.

His most current book, Chasing Shadows, is a murder mystery set in a later time in London, England, and may just be his best
