by Nancy Flanigan Schultz
The Flanigan’s family story reflects the experience of over one million Irish emigrants who fled oppression and the hardships of the potato famine. This engaging chronicle explores how the Irish lived under British domination, the trauma of the famine, the challenges of their voyage on an immigrant ship, their struggles living in New York City’s tenements, and the satisfaction of finally finding a new home in New York State’s Hudson Valley. There, despite hard work and tragedy, the Flanigans built a foundation that enabled their descendants to thrive.
